We knew when we moved in February 2022 that we wanted something different on the long hallway inside our Visitor Center office building.
Visit Oconee’s “Head Honcho” (Ken Sloan) commissioned Melody Davis from Gateway Arts Center to paint something unique that would show off various points of interest throughout the county. It was a work in progress for many months, but Melody kept painting along…She started with the Chattooga River and incorporated Lake Jocassee, road cyclists, camping, anglers, a girl hiking, a mountain biker, a woman viewing Yellow Branch Falls, and ended with people walking into Stumphouse Tunnel. She also came back and painted a dozen “hidden” creatures along the wall for kids to find.
Video spanning the entire wall:
Melody Davis is the creative genius behind Gateway Arts Center and the person who painted lovely murals on numerous buildings in Westminster, SC. She is incredibly talented and wonderful to work.
You can commission Melody to highlight your business with a custom mural. Her rates vary depending on difficulty. View Melody’s mural gallery here.
Melody Davis also painted a map of Oconee County that is hanging in the lobby of the Visitor Center. Plexiglass was installed over the map to help show people points of interest using dry erase markers.
