Bad Creek Spur Trail

This easy 0.8-mile spur trail provides a connection to the Whitewater River, the Foothills Trail, Coon Branch Trail, and to Lower Whitewater Falls (via the Foothills Trail). Enter the gate to Duke Energy's Bad Creek Hydro Station on SC 130, and proceed two miles down to the marked entrance to the large trailhead parking area. Fishing, but no camping, is allowed along the Whitewater River. A designated campsite is 0.5 miles past junction with the river.

The building was once the Tamassee-Salem High School. After the school district closed the facility, it was refurbished and is now Eagles Nest Arts Center. The center is available to rent for performances, education programs, concerts, plays and community events. There are classrooms and museum rooms that keep Tamassee and Salem memories alive. The auditorium seats 280 people.

This church/meeting house is the only building still standing on the site where the town of Pickens Courthouse was established in 1828. Not an actual museum, but the adjacent cemetery has over 200 historic graves dating back to 1790.
