Ten Years of Tourism

Many people wonder: “What is tourism?”

It’s boat rentals on lakes, rafting on the river, eating at restaurants, staying in lodging and much more.  In the 10 years since we have been in operation, tourism to the area has skyrocketed!  In 2017, the state tracked 615,000 folks who visited Oconee County.  They came for outdoor adventure and recreational opportunities of all kinds.

Accommodations Tax

Oconee County has an Accommodations Tax of 3% on area lodging.  The ATAX collected from lodging helps us promote area businesses and work to bring visitors to the area.

We work closely with our tourism partner Oconee County Parks Recreation & Tourism

Music Destination

Music venues in Oconee County are becoming well known and attract popular artists.  Westminster Music Centre and Walhalla Performing Arts Center both have new directors and a great line up of performances!

Throughout the spring and summer there are regular music nights in Seneca and Westminster.  Jazz on the Alley happens Thursday evenings on Ram Cat Alley in downtown Seneca; Westminster’s Music On Main is a monthly street party with live music the first Friday of the month April – October.

New Retail Shops

In 2018 Hartwell Village opened on Hwy. 123 near Oconee County’s border with Clemson.  We now have more retails stores and restaurants to serve our visitors.  A Hilton Tru hotel and condo development with vacation rentals are also in the works.
