Lake Keowee

Lake Keowee covers 18,370 acres and has 300 miles of shoreline.

Lake Keowee, along with Lake Jocassee, was built by Duke Energy in the 1970’s for the purpose of generating electricity and providing public recreation. Duke Energy manages the dams, the lake and shoreline around the lake.

The lake is popular for fishing, boating, swimming, sailing and watersports.

The public can access Lake Keowee from two of our county parks (High Falls and South Cove) as well as various boat ramps maintained by Duke Energy and the Oconee County Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism. ARRIVE EARLY as parking at lake public access points is limited. Roads near Lake Keowee have been experiencing heavy traffic. We strongly discourage parking in private neighborhoods along the lake.
