Stay Awhile in Long Creek
Make Chattooga River Lodge your mountain home base with camping, creek access and plenty of room to unwind. When dinner rolls around, head to Willie’s Tavern for good food and live music. It’s the kind of place where you can spend the day exploring and settle in for the evening without going far.
Chase a Few Waterfalls
You can’t spend a weekend in the mountains without finding some falling water!
Brasstown Falls is a must see in the Long Creek area, while Reedy Branch Falls offers a quieter spot to explore. For even more adventure, make your way to Riley Moore Falls or Bull Sluice, or lace up your hiking shoes for the longer trek to Opossum Creek Falls. With so many places to explore, there’s always another reason to keep wandering through Oconee County’s wild side.
Grab Something Local
After a day outside, Brasstown BBQ is calling! Open Friday and Saturday, this local favorite is a great addition to a mountain weekend. Try to get there as close to opening as possible because when they sell out, they’re out for the day, and the popular options go quick! Come hungry and enjoy a laid back meal before heading back to camp.
Head a Little Farther North
There’s plenty more to discover as you make your way toward the north side of the county. Oconee State Park offers campsites with easy access to hiking, mountain scenery and nearby adventures.
Waterfall seekers can add Pigpen and Licklog Falls to their list, where two scenic waterfalls make for a beautiful stop while exploring the mountains of Oconee County.
Slow Down by the Lake
Trade the trail for the shoreline at High Falls County Park, where Lake Keowee provides the perfect backdrop for a slower afternoon. You can also stop by Jocassee Valley Brewing to grab a drink, enjoy the laid back atmosphere and spend a little more time soaking in the local side of the mountains.
Before calling it a day, stop by Habanero’s for a local bite and one more taste of the quieter side of Oconee County.
