Summer is here, and there’s no better time to start checking things off your Oconee County
bucket list. From swimming beneath waterfalls and spending the day on the lake to grabbing
fresh produce at local markets and enjoying live music under the stars, there’s something for
everyone. Here are some of our favorite ways to make the most of summer in Oconee County.
1. Visit Devils Fork State Park
Devils Fork State Park is the gateway to Lake Jocassee, the only public access point to South Carolina’s deepest lake. Spend the day swimming, hiking, kayaking, or launching a boat to explore the lake’s clear water and waterfalls that can only be reached by boat. Check out Eclectic Sun to view rentals in the park! It’s a fun way to experience the lake whether you’re visiting for the weekend or you’re a local.
2. Enjoy Live Music Around Oconee County
Summer evenings are even better with live music. Jazz on the Alley brings free concerts to
downtown Seneca on Thursday nights, while Keowee Brewing Company hosts live music
throughout the weekend. Check local event calendars before you go to see who’s playing.
3. Cool Off at Riley Moore Falls
Riley Moore Falls is one of the area’s favorite swimming spots, especially during the summer. A moderate one mile hike leads to the waterfall and swimming hole, making it a rewarding destination. Bring water shoes, pack a picnic, and enjoy one of Oconee County’s most scenic places to cool off.
4. Buy Local Honey & Fresh Produce
Summer is the perfect time to shop locally. Stop by the Chattooga Belle Farm Produce Stand, the FARM Center Market, or browse the weekly Long Creek Market for fresh produce, baked goods, and locally harvested Long Creek honey. It’s a simple way to support local farms while bringing home some of the best flavors of the season.
5. Spend Time at Chau Ram County Park
Chau Ram County Park offers a little bit of everything! Walk across the park’s 160-foot suspension bridge, take a few steps to Ramsey Creek Falls, or spend some time swimming along the Chauga River. With picnic areas, walking trails, and plenty of shade, it’s a laid-back place to spend a summer afternoon.
6. Play Mini Golf at Oasis Ranch
Oasis Ranch is a fun stop for families, couples, or anyone looking for a laid-back afternoon. Play a round of mini golf, grab some ice cream, and take a walk around the koi ponds and water features. It’s a great way to slow down and enjoy a summer evening.
7. Swim at Bull Sluice's Beach
Bull Sluice is one of the most popular spots along the Chattooga River, offering plenty of space to spread out on the beach, cool off in the water, and view rafters and kayakers tackle the Class IV rapid. Go to the right of the fork to view the rapid, go to the left for the beach. Swimming here can be refreshing but also hazardous. Please be aware of river currents, slippery rocks, and water levels. Inexperienced swimmers should avoid swimming near the rapids, and wearing a life jacket is suggested. It’s a unique stop whether you’re there for the action or the peaceful views.
8. Watch the Sunset at Chattooga Belle Farm
If you’re looking for one of the best sunset views in Oconee County, head to Chattooga Belle Farm. Bring a blanket or lawn chair, pick up a pizza from nearby Humble Pie, and enjoy dinner overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains. While you’re there, you can also stop by the farm store, bistro, or distillery.
9. Spend the Day at South Cove County Park
South Cove County Park is one of the best places on Lake Keowee for a family day outdoors. The park features a swimming beach, boat ramps, picnic shelters, playgrounds, walking paths, and plenty of space to relax. Stop by Keowee Marina for food, drinks, and lake essentials before heading out, or rent a pontoon or jet ski from Lake Keowee Boat Rentals and enjoy a day on the water!
