Seneca’s Historic Downtown

There’s a charming part of town, a short drive from Highway 123, which is worth a stop if you appreciate the past. Seneca’s historic district is a collection of commercial buildings which reflect the development of the downtown area as the center of commerce from around 1887 to 1930.

Ram Cat Alley is a street with that has seen a resurgence of activity. Boutique shops and locally owned restaurants make this area a destination for visitors coming to Lake Keowee, Lake Hartwell, nearby Clemson University and beyond.

The strange name “Ram Cat Alley” was so called because of the tendency of cats to gather around the Fred Hopkins Meat Market which was located on that street circa 1908.

Jazz on the Alley is weekly event that takes place on the streets in this historic part of town on Thursday evenings from April to October.
