1.Go fishing in Oconee’s lakes and rivers

Oconee County is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, and January is no exception. The county’s pristine lakes and rivers, including Lake Jocassee and Lake Keowee, are teeming with trout, bass, and catfish. Winter fishing offers a peaceful experience, with fewer crowds and the chance to enjoy the serene beauty of the water. Go it alone or book an outing with one of our fishing guides. Make sure to bundle up and bring your fishing license—you might just reel in a memorable catch!

2. Head over to Newry for a meal and music

The Newry General Store and Cafe is in the heart of Newry Mill Village. The building served as the company store during the days when the textile mill was operational. The site fell on hard times and was vacant for decades. The building was restored to its former glory several years ago. It now serves as the hub of the community offering a welcoming space to gather and eat locally sourced food and artisanal products. It’s a nice place to enjoy an evening filled with great food, drinks to warm your spirits, and live music  to keep a smile on your face.
