December isn’t just about shopping and presents,
it’s about getting together with special people
and making memories together!
Countdown to Christmas with a dozen activities to enjoy this holiday season:
1 Special Light Show
Spend an evening in Seneca driving or walking through the festive scenes at Norton Thompson Park downtown. The City of Seneca has strung over 1,000,000 lights that twinkle and dance to the sound of Christmas music. It’s truly a sight to behold!
2 Shoppers Shopping
If you want a feel-good experience this Christmas, shop small and local! Find the perfect gift and support businesses who have invested in our community. You’ll find dozens of independently owned stores and boutiques offering a wide array of products and services just for you.
3 Small Towns Buzzing
Our downtowns are especially charming this time of year! Merchants and city officials in Seneca, Walhalla, and Westminster really put on a show with festive holiday lights and storefront displays to captivate young and old.
4 Parks O’ Plenty
5 Bakers Baking
We love our sweet shops all year, but especially during the holidays! Treat yourself, or someone else, to freshly baked cookies or festive desserts.
6 Diners Dining
We have wonderful places to eat, relax and regroup during the hectic holiday season. Sit back and savor culinary creations from someone else who is cooking in the kitchen!
7 Hikers Hiking
When it comes to hiking, Oconee County, SC has options! One of our most sought after trails is the 77-mile Foothills Trail. If that’s more than you’re after, choose from hikes that are easy, moderate or strenuous–many of which lead to wonderful waterfalls.
8 Rivers Flowing
The Wild and Scenic Chattooga River, and the lesser known Chauga River, both flow free through Oconee County. Their banks are undeveloped settings where nature lovers enjoy peace and solitude. Much of the surrounding National Forest is evergreen, but many tree species shed their leaves allowing for better views through the woods. The cooler months are excellent for trout fly fishing.
9 Boats a Floating
Whether you prefer the river or the lake, being on the water is calm, serene and beautiful in the wintertime! Set out in your own boat, rent one, or book a tour with local guide services operating on Lakes Jocassee, Keowee and Hartwell.
10 Adventure Gifts
We’ve got suggestions for ways to give memorable experiences and “merch with meaning”. Proceeds from select merchandise helps support environmental organizations and non-profits working to protect and maintain special places in Oconee County, SC.
11 Beers a Brewing
The Bible Belt has loosed up around here. Bars and breweries have come to town! You can enjoy happy hour and seasonal gatherings at more places than ever offering beer, wine and spirits.
